George travelled from South Australia with his parents in 1906 and lived at ‘Ardenvale’ until the 1914-18 war when he enlisted in the 12th Light Horse Regiment and served in the Middle East. He suffered severely with malaria which affected his health in later years. Following the war, he took up a Soldier Settlement farm at Warral near Tamworth and later purchased an adjoining area.

He married Jean Cuthbertson at Oxley Methodist Church on 15 March 1930, and they remained at Warral until retiring to live in Tamworth in 1954. Their younger son James then took over the farm. George was very active in community affairs, both local and statewide and was made a life member of the Wheat and Woolgrowers Association of N S W in recognition of many years of service. He also served on the Peel Shire Council for many years including four as President. George was a member of the Peel Cunningham Electricity County Council and a member of the Tamworth District Local Govern-ment Association. As a young man George was a keen tennis player. He died on 25 September 1965 following two years of ill health.
