Evelyn worked as a maid at the Kapunda Hospital. She played the piano, was a member of church choirs and as a young woman played tennis.
Her husband, Archibald, was an orchardist and competed with a good deal of success in local and Upper Murray pruning competitions. In later years both played lawn bowls.
