Changing Pastures

Arnolds in Australia 1848 – 1993

The history of the Arnold family in Australia begins with Johanne Elisabeth Arnold (nee Anders) and her five sons who travelled to South Australia over the period from 1848 to 1867. This book contains a comprehensive Arnold family tree covering the period from 1848 to 1993, with more than 5000 descendants and spouses. Many photographs and stories of the lives and achievements within the Arnold family are recorded.

The book title, Changing Pastures reflects the family’s strong link with the land.  The sons of Gottfried and Elisabeth Arnold were farmers and many of their descendants continued living in rural communities.

Our early pioneer families showed courage and tenacity in adapting to their new life in Australia. They quickly established faith communities including Lutheran schools for their children.

Supplement to Changing Pastures Arnolds in Australia 1848—2003

The second Arnold Family Reunion was held on the 4th & 5th of October, 2003 at Tanunda in South Australia, where the Arnolds first settled.  The ‘2003 Supplement to Changing Pastures’ was launched at the reunion by Peter Arnold. The supplement complements and extends those family names not included in the 1993 Arnold Family book.
