Introduction to Arnold Memorial Plaques
At the Arnold Family Reunions in 1993 and 2003 and number of memorial plaques were laid at the burial sites of Arnold family members who travelled from Silesia and settled in the Barossa Valley .
At the first Arnold Family Reunion 2nd to 4th Octoer 1993 two family plaques were laid. The first was for Johanne Elisabeth Arnold nee Anders, the mother of the five Arnold brothers and the matriarch of the Arnold family. A service conducted by Pastor T G Obst, was held at the site of her memorial stone in Bethel Lutheran Cemetery ,very near her son Ehrenfried’s final resting place. Elisabeth lived with Ehrenfried’s family until her death. A video of this service can be seen on this site.
The second plaque was laid for the fourth son, Johann Wilhelm at St Peter’s Lutheran Church in Greenock. Wilhelm tragically died aged 42 years, after being stuck by a horse while carting water.
At the second Arnold Family Reunion on 4th & 5th October 2003, a plaque was laid for the second brother, Johann Gottlob, who is buried at Angas Valley Lutheran Church. Lorraine Powers, a descendant of Gottlob, unveiled the plaque.
The plaque for the fifth brother, Carl Friedrich was unveiled at Langmeil Lutheran Church in Tanunda at his burial site.
