John Heinrich Bernhard (Ben) was baptised at South Kilkerran Moravian Church. He was a Boer War veteran and also served in the Sixth Australian Light Horse in the 1914-1918 war.
Ben married Louisa Mary Gosling on 6 January 1909. At that time Ben was an auctioneer and Mary was a nurse. They had one son, Cecil who spent some years on a cattle station in Western Australia and then enlisted to serve in World War II. He was listed on the casualty list, but it is not known what became of him.
